The rough waves and darker sands of the Gulf Coast don't exactly attract foreign tourists. Moneyed visitors can be found in hordes up the coast on the other side of the Yucatan peninsula in such places as Cancun and Cozumel, about 10 to 12 hours away by bus. As for us, we're planning to head deeper into the tropical jungles of southern Mexico and into Guatemala the next couple days. The next beach we'll see will be on the Pacific side of Central America.
