These pickups line the foothills of the valley, close to where we got off the bus. The driver of our truck invited his cousin, Sebastian, to come along for the ride. Over the 20 minute ride up, we realized that we looking at a skewed mirror. Here was another 26 year old, but he's led a completely different life. At 17, he bolted up through Mexico, and on illegally into the States to Miami. There he worked at a factory, making $110 a day, sending enough money back to build a home for his family here in Guatemala. The contrasts of Zunil and cosmopolitan Miami are astounding, and he yearns to go back by spring.
