Decommissioned school buses from the United States are the mass-transportation vehicle of choice here in Guatemala. Often taken out of service because they fail emissions tests stateside, the buses have a second, longer (and polluting) life here in poorer nations without stringent standards. To see one of these buses not belch out smoke into the already-thick air is a rarity.
