The worn sign announcing our arrival into Nicaragua from Honduras marked the last border crossing of the day. The sign reveals the country's tumultuous history. Daniel Ortega and the Sandinista Party won control of the government in the late '70s, only to be driven from power by US-backed counterrevolutionaries during the Reagan years. Ortega was recently reelected president, though his former Socialist leanings have been watered down.
