After four days in São Paulo, we left the densely packed urban world, for a change of scenery: Ilha Grande, a tropical island seven hours away. When we got to the dock, we purchased tickets for the 5:30 boat to the island. Upon our return at 5, we found out that the man who had sold us the tickets was actually not a ferry ticket salesman, and we, along with several other passengers (seven by our count), had been scammed out of 20 reais, or about $11 each.
