Bill invited us to meet him at Central Única das Favelas, or CUFA, a nonprofit youth development organization based in City of God that he founded to provide extracurricular education for local youths. Currently CUFA's facilities include an audio/visual editing suite, a computer center with 20 Internet-equipped computers, and a theater for film screenings, as well as musical and theatrical performances.
The center offers yearlong classes in A/V production and editing, graffiti writing, and a film club, where screenings are followed by debate and discussion of each selected movie. CUFA's youth basketball league has been put on hold until the baskets on their local court can be fixed, but they are currently in negotiations with Nike to garner sponsorship to have the court completely revamped.
