Last week, Bill launched his new book "Falcon: Women and Drug Trafficking," in Salvador at a local jail for women. The book examines the role of women who are directly involved in or affected by drug trafficking in Brazil and is a followup to the album, book, and documentary film released by Bill in 2006 that investigate the role of male adolescents in Brazil’s drug trade.

To celebrate the book’s publication, Bill organized an event at the jail that gave female inmates an opportunity to speak openly to the press and authorities about their lives as mothers, sisters, wives or girlfriends of drug cartel members, as well as their experiences within the Brazilian judicial system.

“To turn the tables like that, and give those women a chance to speak, it was one of the most positive experiences of my life.” He says with a glimmer of hope. “By allowing the women to speak we stop attacking the consequences of the problem and begin to attack the root of the problem instead.

He is planning to release a documentary based on the book and eventually put together a feature length documentary that combines both the male and female experiences in the drug trade here.
