02/26/2008 | Location: Salvador, Brazil
The city of Salvador is wedged into a point, with the Baia de Todos os Santos on one side and the mighty Atlantic Ocean on the other. The beaches on the respective sides reflect the body of water they belong to. The bay side beaches are calm, sandy stretches; on the Atlantic side, the waves make for good surf - if you can avoid the rocky outcroppings. Barra, the neighborhood shown here, forming Salvador's southern point, has a good number of restaurants, surf shops, and hotels.
