Today we ventured to the Pelourinho around 8 p.m. and, as it was the first Tuesday of the month (when most people get paid), both the crowds and music were at their height. Our first stop was the grand staircase at the base of the colonial church, Igreja do Santíssimo Sacramento do Passo. Every Tuesday night, local band leader Gerônimo and his Banda Mont Serrat play on the church's steps to a crowd of devoted fans. The genre-bending band plays a mix of Musica Popular Brasileira (popular Brazilian music), reggae and samba.
