The preferred mode of public transport here in Nairobi is the "matatu," a passenger van which can legally carry up to 14 passengers, although it is not uncommon for them to pack in more. Matatus are operated by two-man crews with a driver and a conductor who collects fares and alerts potential riders of the the van's destination by shouting out of the van's window.
