Construction of the Uganda Railway began in 1896 under British colonial rule. Many of the railway's workers were Indian, brought over from British India to complete the project. Today, the descendants of these laborers make up a small Indian minority in Kenya where traditional Indian fare is a mainstay at local restaurants.
