The term "chai" is synonymous with tea in most parts of Africa, making the well known phrase "chai tea" redundant here. The drink is not the spiced version we traditionally think of as chai in America, but regular tea bags submerged in hot milk. Sugar is thankfully a cross-cultural constant.
