Generally, the bike paths that run parallel to the city's canals are one way with traffic running forward, always on the right hand side. Unaware of this and other bike traffic rules, we received our fair share of annoyed looks from locals who caught us heading the wrong way down one-way paths. By the end of the day, however, we were fully schooled on Amsterdam bike etiquette.
