In the city's core, the Brandenburg Tor is one of Berlin's signature scenes. Through division by pen, the gate landed in the hands of the Soviet East Germany and eventually the wall bore through right where these cyclists are now. The scene set a stage for numerous political speeches and rallies on the Western side, ranging from Ronald Regan's "Bring down this wall" address to David Hassellhoff's singing of his hit (in Germany) "Looking for Freedom" on New Year's day 1990, just weeks after the collapse.
