Built in the 1880's, the building was the face of various German governments. In 1933, an arson attack on the building was one of the many dominoes that fell leading to Adolf Hitler and the Nazi's ascension to power. Blaming the communists, Hitler eventually used the arson attack as a launch pad to cleanse Germany's democratic parliament and eventually land him total power.
