Once inside, visitors are greeted with this breathtaking view. Numerous architects, sculptors, and other artists contributed to the basilica's design and construction during 16th and 17th centuries including Carlo Maderno, who designed the building's ornate facade, and Michelangelo, who is responsible for the church's massive dome.
