Hip cafes and cheap eats abound in the university district, where college students and hipsters (called punk e bestias) hang out. Quickly becoming one of our favorite Italian words, punk e bestia -- quite literally, "punks with beasts" -- dot the city. These alternative-lifestyle youths with dogs in tow (the beasts) are a nuisance or an endearing oddity depending on what side of the social line you stand on.
