From 1992 to 1996, the hotel was home to the international press corps who holed up there in central Sarajevo to cover the siege of the city, during which Bosnian Serb forces engaged in a campaign of ethnic cleansing, expelling Muslims from eastern and northern Bosnia in an effort to create a direct corridor connecting Bosnian Serb ethnic areas in the west with Serbia.
