Despite what appeared to be widespread support for the nationalist Democratic Party of Serbia and their political ally, the Serbian Radical Party led by Tomislav Nikolić, at the time of writing (the votes are still being counted) President Boris Tadic's pro-European Union party appears to have won 39% of the vote, the largest portion controlled by any one party. However, in order to win control over the direction of the country Tadic will have to forge an alliance with other like-minded parties who hold enough seats in parliament to give the alliance a ruling majority.
