The bitter battle over Kosovo has remained a central issue in Serbian politics since the 18th century. While most EU nations and most of Serbia's neighbors (Croatia, Bulgaria, and Hungary) support Kosovo's struggle for independence from Serbia, many Serbs see Kosovo as the cradle of Serbian history and an integral part of their nation that they are unwilling to release.
