We'd read and been told by fellow travelers that, for Americans, admission into Syria is not guaranteed. Occasionally, the daily mood of immigration officers can come into play. Though a bit fearful of rejection, we were mostly optimistic. As the bus neared the border station we caught our first glimpse of Syria on the other side of this barbed wire fence.
