After a night of rest on the rooftop of Jared's apartment building in the Old City of Damascus, we prepared for yet another border run, this time hiring a cabbie to take us over the Lebanese border to Beirut. Less than a week after a short civil war engulfed the country, we were hesitant to visit Lebanon but after receiving encouraging reports from friends on the ground in Beirut that fighting had ceased, the decision was made to go.
