Rising early, we hopped in a cab and headed for Damascus' central bus terminal hoping to seize the day with a trip down to the Golan Heights at the Israeli border, followed by some afternoon city exploration back in Damascus. We got off to a slow start when our cab blew out a tire on the way to the bus station. The cabbie calmly put on the spare as cars and trucks whizzed by, just feet away.
