06/09/2008 | Location: Kandy, Sri Lanka
The main entrance to the temple sits on the edge of Kandy city. One of the nation's biggest celebrations occurs every August on these very streets. Called the Kandy Perahera, the celebration is the one of the few times the tooth relic is taken out of the temple. During the parading, the tooth is carried on the back of a lead elephant. This elephant is so revered they've made a museum for him. Accompanying the elephant is a string of dancers, fire breathers, drummers, and even more elephants.
