The Islamic-based Mughal empire that spread across nearly all of present-day India to Afghanistan in the 16th and 17th centuries produced a long list of impressive architectural works. Borrowing from the cultures the empire spanned over, shades of Islamic, Persian, and Indian Hindu architecture are reflected in the Taj.
